The Sword band was founded in the middle 2000's in Austin, TX by vocalist and guitarist J.D. Cronise (singer and guitarist), Bryan Richie (bassist), Kyle Shutt (guitarist), and Trivett Wingo (drummer). The group first performed at Austin's SXSW Festival in 2003. After releasing the Sword's debut LP, ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead, the band signed to Kemado.
