Brothers Al (guitar) and Neal Morse (vocals), and Nick D'Virgilio (drums) started Spock's Beard in 1992. They recruited Dave Meros (bass) and released their debut album entitled The Light in 1994. The record became rather popular and was followed by the band's second LP called The Official Bootleg in 1996. Before its releasing, Ryo Okumoto (keyboards) entered the group.
