Four Tet has switched between genres, sampling music from numerous sources, from recording to recording. Earlier in his career, Four Tet mixed jazz samples over hip hop drum beats, later moved to sampling electronica itself and then on to folk music, creating some sort of folktronica. Such acoustic sounds had tremendous appeal to a wide audience, with NPR in Boston using a track as its opening song to its show.
