About Sonic Youth
To demonstrate the free associations that typify Sonic Youth members' inspirations one can look at the influences over the band members. Thurston Moore, guitarist and vocalist for Sonic Youth, said he found punk music and hardcore bands of the early 80s radical and great. Sonic Youth does not play in that style, but in a free way, as free as only Sonic Youth can be, they are influenced by it and affect it in return as well.
