As influential as they were extreme, Slayer formed in 1981 and changed to a large degree what heavy metal sounded and looked like ever since. The art work on their album covers, naturally the first thing one notices, and then the lyrics that touch on troubling subjects from was to death and back again, Slayer are the main reference point for many bands, perhaps the entire genre of Death Metal.
