About Dire Straits
British rock band Dire Straits are most famous for the guitar playing of founder Mark Knopfler, but for a list of other good reasons as well. Established a few years before the founding of MTV, Dire Straits videos were successful in carrying their music to the mass crowds of viewers. In fact, Money for Nothing, their 1985 song that featured Sting, was the first video to air on MTV Britain.
