The song "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" was written by Robert Hazard, a Philadelphia singer/songwriter who had a band called Robert Hazard and the Heroes. Hazard recorded his demo of the song in 1979. Cyndi Lauper says the original lyrics of the song dealt more with a girl pleasing a man.
